History of the Department of Environmental Art and Design

BIT Department of Environmental Art and Design was founded in 2002 and the first department director was Zhuang Hong. For 12 years, the department has been optimizing plans for programs, improving teaching approaches, increasing practices in teaching, and enhance interdisciplinary connections, so as to increase the standards for students in terms of basic professional skills, professional design, professional theories, internship, and graduate design and thesis.

The department started to enroll undergraduate students from 2002 and its graduate enrollment began in 2003.

In 2008, the department provided interior & spatial design plans for taiwan.com.

In 2009, the department provided standardization design plans for Liaoning Tax Services Office.

In 2010, delegates of the department attended the preparatory meeting for editing “Architecture and Environmental Art Textbook Series for Ordinary Higher Education” and the teachers of the department were responsible for writing part of the textbooks on environmental art. In the same year, Ji Xiaoying and Han Lei, class of 2006 undergraduate students in the department, respectively received the third prize and honorable mention in the 8th Environmental Art Design Annual Award (undergraduate), and the department won the “Outstanding Organization” in this award.

In 2011, to improve the quality of education, the department started to cooperate with CSCEC (China State Construction Engineering Corporation), enabling students to work as interns in several subsidiary companies of CSCEC, including China Construction First Group Decoration Corporation Limited, The Second Construction Co, Ltd of China Construction First Group, and China Architecture Design Group

In 2012, the department started to establish its Technology and Experiment Center, including the Modelling Lab, the Woodcraft Lab and the Material and Structure Technology Lab. Meanwhile, some adjustments were made to the curricula.

In 2013, the East China Cultural and Creative Industrial Park planned and designed by the department was finished.
