Liu Yongxiang was born in Jiamusi, Heilongjiang Province, in November 1969. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from the Department of Industrial Design of Beijing Institute of Technology in 1992 and obtained his Master’s Degree from the same department in 1999. He worked in the Teaching and Research Office of Harbin Engineering University, and for the industrial design program of North China University of Technology. From 2003 to 2011, he served as the director of the Department of Industrial Design of the College of Art Design of North China University of Technology.

He is currently the Deputy Dean of the College of Art Design of North China University of Technology and head of the industrial design program, the Director of Industrial Design Institution of Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, member of the Industrial Design Education Committee of China Education Association of Machinery Industry, the director of Beijing Industrial Design Promotion Organization, and editorial board member of the journal Packaging Engineering.

His major areas of concentration include: product design theories, industrial design methods, and the application of human-factors engineering for product design. Courses that he teaches include: Introduction to Industrial Design, Product Design and Theories, Design Methodology. He published over 40 papers, including “Study of the Interaction Design of Man-machine Interface Based on Product Usability” and “Research on the Universal Design of Public Goods Concerning the Variation on Athletic Ability of Aging Population”, in the Chinese journals Art & Design and Packaging Engineering, and various international conferences. Scientific programs he has undertook include: “Research on the Universal Design on Environmental Protection and Resources Preservation” and “Standardization of the Product Identification Design of DTmobile ”.

He received “Outstanding Young Educator Award of Beijing” and took “Outstanding Talent Award of Beijing Organization Department” twice. The textbook Product Design that he edited was rated by the Education Minister as “National Excellent Textbook” and his another book Computer-aided Product Design was rated as “Beijing Excellent Textbook”. The program he participated in, called “Study on and Practice of Program-Oriented Cultural and Creative Talents Cultivation Mode”, took the second prize in the 7th Educaor Award of Beijing.
